THE INDIA Meteorological Department (IMD) is all set to get more ears on the ground to track the weather up above.
It is planning to add a new set of devices, called wind profilers and microwave radiometers, to the battery of instruments it uses to study upper air atmosphere, K S Hosalikar, who heads IMD Pune, told The Indian Express. These would operate from the ground and not as part of the instruments that the IMD mounts on balloons that go up 20-25 km where data is collected.
